"Men's Men, Men's Women"

Women's Men

Gillette "Venus" commercial [2009]

Surface Meaning: The Venus Commercial shows multiple scene of women with closely shaved legs being embraced and loved by very attractive men.

Advertiser's Intended Meaning: The advertiser's goal is to point out that a man loves a pretty woman and nice legs is part of that "pretty attraction".

Cultural or Ideological Meaning: "The Venus Embrase shaves you closer so, you can get closer." The phrase tells women that not only will the 'Embrase' give you a closer shave it will give you a closer attraction from men, because sexy, smooth legs is what a gentle, loving man (like in the commercial) wants.

Men's Women

Axe Anarchy Commerical

Surface Meaning: The Axe Anarchy Commercial displays a series of chaotic events all started by a man and woman's attraction to one another.

Advertiser's Intended Meaning: The advertiser is trying to prove that the smell of axe will make a stronger attraction between men and attractive women, possibly to the point where they are completely oblivious to their surroundings (maybe haha).

Cultural or Ideological Meaning: A strong, strange attraction "at first smell". This gives a chaotic view to love a first sight/"smell" by exaggerating the attraction of a pretty woman to a (stranger) man. The commercial says that you can have a crazy attraction using the product.

Men's Men

The Law of Pizzaplicity :30 TV

Surface Meaning: The DiGiorno Pizza commerical compares the prices of the DiGiorno pizza to that of a delivery pizza showing two men sitting on the couch watching TV eating their pizza as a friend runs in with the new discovery that they can have two DiGiorno pizzas for the price of one delivery pizza.

Advertiser's Intended Meaning: The advertiser is emphasizing that the purchasing a DiGiorno pizza is a smarter choice than a delivery pizza, because it's cheaper. It's like getting two for the price of one.

Cultural or Ideological Meaning: Everyone knows men love food and good food at that, this commercial puts that on a new level with the not so smart males. The love of food is doubled and made more accessible to them, something to get excited about when it comes to the males mind. And here, the fact they figured it out themselves makes them feel smarter. ( ;) )

Women's Women

Taylor Swift CoverGirl Commercial - 'Natureluxe'

Surface Meaning: The CoverGirl 'Natureluxe' commercial shows Taylor Swift with a softer, natural looking make-up, dancing and jumping and speaking about a make-up products with lighter, more natural ingredients, as the camera shows examples of such, and the make that she talks about. While doing this, the commercial contrasts the old heavier make-up to the new, fresher make-up.

Advertiser's Intended Meaning: The advertiser is trying to make the point that a lighter make-up will make you look and feel more natural and won't give the consumer the feeling of being "weighed down".

Cultural or Ideological Meaning: The choice of a fresh faced young lady, such as Taylor and having her speak about the product is, say that she really uses the product and likes the product. Her up beat voice says she is excited about the product, and the jumping around shows the audience of the commercial that the product makes her feel good. All of these things reach out to the female audience with a positivity that the make-up product will make them feel and look fresh faced just like Taylor does.

Book-et List

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

Intrigued by a review that speaks of a “pure but nasty addiction”, I am eager to learn more about Camille’s story.  A girl with a background that leads her to cutting and a stay in a psych hospital is forced into revisiting her past as she works on an assignment for the paper she works for. Will this be a cure or just form new scares?

Outlander (Serie)s by Diana Gabaldon

Always being into a tale full of romance, Outlander may just be the best of all worlds for a girl who also loves fantasy and historical fiction. Being pulled back in time Claire Randall is "torn between fidelity and desire" and two men in two different lives. I am bracing myself for tough decision and a romance like no other.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I have been told forever that Pride and Prejudice is a "must read" and reading the first pages I have already related to controlling and not so understanding parents. A story of five sisters searching for what they want in love, but all reaching their own opsticals as they try. Love isn't something to take lightly; I am ready to take on each girls road to finding their TRUE love.

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

Hearing all the rage about this book I thought it was time to enter the world of murder and love. Harriet Vanger's determined Uncle has hired a trapped journalist and "punk prodigy to find his niece who has been missing for forty years now. The mystery behind the missing girl and the hired "investigators" makes me wonder where this book will take me.

The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen

I seem to find that I have a new thing for mystery. Keeping up with detective Carl Morck as his new promotion leads him to a case of a "presumed dead" politician sounds exciting. I am sure that this book will keep me on edge and awake for hours past what is healthy.

Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent

A heart wrenching true story of a four year old boy that enters heaven, during a surgery to save his life. This book has been on my list to read ever since someone mentioned it to me. I am curious to hear the young boy's stories of his encounters in his short trip to heaven and back.

Because You are Mine (Series) by Beth Kery

The first thing I noticed was the title and new at once that Because You Are Mine would be full of love and romance. The random attraction of two complete strangers, Ian Noble and Francesca Arno, told from the first glance. I can't wait to finally get a good "love at first sight" story.

Water for Elephants by Sare Gruen

An unlikely add on to a circus group Jacob Jankowski is thrown into a position to take care of the "circus menagerie", where he meets Marlena and her husband August and the un-trainable elephant, Rosie. Reading I hope to learn of Jacob's encounters and his new life of travel on the circus train.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jane Asher

I found this book around the time it came out with a friend and we both wanted to read it, but could only afford one copy to share. I want to finally take my chance to follow Clay Jenson's adventure around town to find out Hannah Baker's Thirteen Reasons Why she decided to take her life.

Bones Are Forever by Kathy Reichs

Reading the first pages of Bones Are Forever, I was pulled in by the mystory behind the writting. A story following the investigation of what seems to be a spine shivering murder of three infints, "crackling sexual tension and whip-smart dialogue" between a trio of investigators. I am excited to see how the background of the three workers plays out as well as what they unwrape in thier search for answers.

Let Them Rot in Their Sadistic Skin...

Noticing the the tittle of Wiesenthal's narrative, right off you know that sunflowers plays a large part in the story. As Simon Wiesenthal's unit marched to the tune of the askaris humming and singing, he notices rows of soldiers graves. Along with each tomb there was a simple up-faced sunflower. The sunflower, to him, represented the connection between the dead German men and the dying Jewish race. Although the German soldiers killed just for the lust to kill they would  be remembered. They were praised murderers of the innocent. Arthur makes the statement that "the sunflowers will rot away like them". The problem with this logic is the Germans were rotting with a lovely scene and the Jews were simply thrown into a pit like trash in a dump. Perspective of life to them was turned around by the horrors seen everyday. Realizing that the flower was to rot the same as the soldier below gave him comfort, the flower represented the rotting taking place in the grave. This connection made him happy. I could see why, the irony would make me laugh in sarcasm. These sick, sadistic men had a petite, beautiful connection to the world left behind. While the men on earth rotting in their own skin would simply rot faster in their cramped hole.

Suitable For Forgiveness.

A doctor is there for the well being of his or her patients. Knowing his patients is part of the job; he knows why they are there, and he can sympathize with their situations. Making friendships with long term patients isn't unusual; therefore, assisting a terminally ill patient in commiting suicide is an act suitable for forgiveness. The friendship between a doctor and his patients can go deeper than what society sees. If the patient wants to be relieved from their suffering and asks for it from a friend we see the bad we never see the good in what they were doing. Society has no right to judge a doctor for assiting a friend is a suicide that would most likely not be committed if the situation was not the way it was. There is no other way out for the patient and the doctor knows this and knows the pain they feel. He suffers with the patient. In the end what the doctor has done was done only to end a friends burdens.
